Although we hope you’ll never need to claim on your house insurance, the fact is that you never know what’s round the corner and it’s best to be prepared.
In the unfortunate event that you need to make a claim on your house insurance, it can be difficult to remember all the contents of your house - especially if you've suffered a fire or flood and are dealing with the effects of that.
To make sure that making a claim is as easy as possible, it’s a good idea to make an inventory of your house contents. This doesn’t have to be a long, laborious task. Possibly the easiest way would be to take photos of each room in your house. Photos will not only provide evidence of all the contents of your house but will also help jog your memory about all the items so easily forgotten about.
Take care of the photos you take and, if possible, store a copy outside of your home, at a friend’s or relatives’ house. This will protect them from the effects of a house fire or flood, for example. Then, if you do need to make a claim on your house insurance, get in touch with us as soon as possible.
If you prefer to make a written list, write it down as you walk around your house and remember to include all rooms. Places like the cupboard under the stairs or the loft or garage can easily be forgotten but could store valuable house contents such as your treasured record collection or a spare television.
