Single trip travel insurance

Single trip travel insurance is ideal if you know that you’ll only be taking one holiday abroad in the next 12 months. As the name suggests, single trip travel insurance covers you for one specific trip.

Your policy covers you between the start date and the end date of that holiday and it also covers you for cancellations as soon as you pay for your holiday.

The cost of your travel insurance will depend on your holiday destination and who is covered by the policy. Single trip travel insurance policies are available for individuals, couples and families. Single trip travel insurance doesn’t cost very much when you consider your overall holiday budget - your credit card and home insurance are unlikely to give you sufficient cover.

If you were un-insured and needed medical treatment, or to be transported home in an emergency, you could be faced with enormous bills, so it’s really worth taking out travel insurance, even for a one off or last minute holiday.

It’s also worth remembering that you are not obliged to buy travel insurance together with your holiday from a travel agent or tour operator. Most travel companies will ask for your policy details when you book, but you can call them a few days later when you’ve found the single trip travel insurance policy that’s right for you.

However, cancellations are covered from the day you buy your policy, so don’t leave it until the last minute to take out travel insurance.
