More than half of UK motorists (57%) have decorated their car with accessories such as soft toys and window stickers, a new survey has found.

The research from Onepoll revealed that floor mats are the most popular car accessories at 35%, followed by novelty air fresheners (15%) and window stickers (14%). One in 25 drivers (4%) said they had bought a pair of fluffy dice to hang from their rear view mirror.

The average driver spends around £100 on accessories, with around three in 10 (29%) saying it makes their car more comfortable.

Around one in eight (13%) said it helps them to express their personality, and one in nine (11%) believes it makes their vehicle stand out from the crowd.

However, people who decorate their cars should make sure they also have adequate car insurance , as most people found that accessories like window stickers can block their view when driving.

The researchers also revealed that although women (59%) are more likely to accessorise their car than men (54%), men spend £39 more on accessories than women.
