Joy unluckiest person

‘Joy’ may be an uplifting and happy name but a report on home calamities shows that not all is rosy for this tribe of women.  A study of 180,000 home policies by Churchill Insurance shows that ‘Joy’ suffers from more break-ins, accidents and water leaks than any other name.

In fact women dominate the mishap charts, with Diana and Tracey also suffering more claims than most.  Sean is the most likely man to suffer a burglary, accident or other household claim, and Paula comes in at fifth position.

Churchill’s Head of Home Insurance, Martin Scott said, “Our data does show that some names suffer much worse than others, but location, age and type of home are often better indicators.  Our stats show that 25-29 year olds, those living in the North East and end of terrace homes are the most prevalent sufferers overall.”

Frederick, Ruth and Tim are the nation’s lucky ones – they claim the least.  Iris and Arthur also keep out of harm’s way with a low number of home incidents to report.

Although there does not seem to be commonality between these claiming names, leading psychotherapist and life coach, Christine Webber, believes that psychology has a part to play.

“Joy tries to live up to her name; the likelihood is that she is energetic and enthusiastic in all that she does.  This may lead her to be clumsy and careless, knocking things over, leaving taps running and forgetting to shut windows,” comments Christine Webber.
“On the other hand Ruth tends to be gentle and quietly generous, she is willing to accept the blame; therefore by her nature she is keen to have a quiet life. Her spare time will be based at home, therefore decreasing the risk of burglary, and Ruth is more likely to take care with her possessions.”

Another aspect is the biggest and most expensive home disasters. Dorothy’s claims are the most costly whilst Kathryn’s are the most frugal.  Men that suffer the biggest financial mishaps tend to be Nigel, Phillip and Chris, with the lower cost claims made by Vincent.

Research based on Churchill Home Insurance customer base of over 180,000 policies.
